
David transitioned from his fine-art career of lithography and painting large nature images on canvases of 4'x5’ and 6'x10.’ He learned watercolor and began painting on a greatly reduced format - 11”x16”. This launched a writing career for Helen and she began writing other picture books, chapter books, devotionals and board books for the youngest children. When the Haidles realized their own three children couldn’t understand the meaning of the words of Psalm 23, although they had memorized it, they spent a year writing and illustrating a picture book to help explain the psalm in depth. Helen Haidle is an award-winning author of more than 30 children’s books including What Would Jesus Do, What Did Jesus Promise, and He is Alive. Together with David, her artist husband, she launched out in 1987 on an assignment they felt called to do – working on a picture book of Psalm 23. Forty of these books were published with major Christian publishing houses such as Multnomah, Zondervan, Thomas Nelson, Baker Books, New Leaf Press, and Harvest House. Twenty years later she’s privileged to be an award-winning author of 45 books. When Helen was growing up, she never planned to be a writer.
